FAQ

Question

So what exactly is personal branding photography?

Answer

It's photography for brand owners, with a strong focus on storytelling. The images from a personal branding session will not only show the face behind the brand, but also your personality, style and your passions. In addition to that, it'll show more about your business - with behind the scenes shots, your products and/or services in use, your brand's aesthetic and its overall vibe. All of this helps your audience know, like and trust you, meaning they're far more likely to buy from you.

Question

Do I need personal branding photography?

Answer

The times they are a-chagin'. In today’s image-driven world, being your own brand is likely to bring you a lot more success, than staying in the shadows. Seeing more of you and your business helps to build trust, which leads to increased conversions. From the first impressions on an about page, to the post on Instagram - the images you put out are the first touchpoint for any online interaction. They need to be high-end, professional and get your message across in a split second. (1/10th of a second to be precise!)

Question

Can't I just post the occasional selfie?

Answer

I mean, a selfie is probably better than nothing! But if you want to be taken seriously and come across as the authority in your niche, then professional and high-end imagery is the way to go. Remember, it's not just about the higher picture quality, it's about having a photographer who can actually tell your brand story, make you look and feel great, guide and direct you, and bring your brand vision to life. Plus, coming from a photographer who has tried just taking self-portraits - it's a hell of a lot quicker and easier to hire someone to do it for you!

Question

Where should I have my photos taken, if I don't have an on-brand office/studio/home?

Answer

About 60% of my clients hire their shoot location. When you book, I send you a location guide, which contains all of my recommendations. The cost of hiring a location can range from free, to £2,000 plus. Finding the perfect location really can make all the difference to the final images. It's an investment, but totally worth it in my option. (Location fees are not included).

Question

How can I use the photos? What does a commercial and editorial license mean?

Answer

You can pretty much use the photos however ya like. They're often used for your website, social media, advertising, press, book covers and marketing materials. The only thing you can't do, is sell your images. I retain copyright of the images, which is standard in the industry.

Question

When will I receive the finished online gallery?

Answer

Your images will be ready to download after a maximum of 20 working days. Usually it's half that, but I like to give myself a little buffer, just in case my computer spontaneously combusts or something.

Question

I'm super awkward in front of the camera. How will you get good photos of me?!

Answer

Firstly, I feel ya. I emulate Chandler from F.R.I.E.N.D.S when a camera is pointed in my direction, so I know how scary and uncomfortable it can feel. But panic not - awkward people are my speciality! As you'll see from my portfolio, everyone looks happy and relaxed - yet they were all super nervous to begin with. It's totally normal. You've just gotta trust me when I say that I can get great photos out of even the most camera shy of people! Just check my 'Reviews' story highlight on Instagram, for proof! I'm so confident that you'll love your photos, that I'll give you your money back if you don't.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

It depends on you and your brand. But, as a general rule of thumb, I suggest a casual outfit, a smart-casual outfit and a smart outfit. The more outfit combos, the better - we want lots of varied content. Think about your audience and the message you want to send out. When you book, I send you an in-depth style guide, plus stylist recommendations.

Question

Do you provide outfits, or a fashion stylist?

Answer

I provide you with a style-guide, and my stylist recommendations, but I don't include a client wardrobe or stylist, within the pricing.

Question

Do I have a choice of what images I get, and can I purchase more?

Answer

Yes and yes! You'll be sent an online gallery (the images will have a watermark initially), and from there you can select your included images, and choose to purchase any more if you wish.

Question

How far in advance should I book?

Answer

I limit the amount of shoots I do per month, to ensure that all of my clients get the time and attention they deserve. For this reason, I suggest booking in your shoot with as much notice as possible. 1-3 months in advance is ideal. I can do shoots at shorter notice if needed, subject to availability.

Question

How can I get the most content out of our shoot?

Answer

Planning is key! The planning process is pretty in-depth. By the time the shoot rolls around, I'll have your brand questionnaire responses and your mood board. This means we're both crystal clear on what we need to be doing, so you can just relax on the day of the shoot, while we have a natter, listen to your favourite music, and I snap away. If you fancy a bit of dutch courage too - fill ya boots!

Question

Can I bring props to the shoot?

Answer

Please do! Props are really handy. I like to start off with 'working' shots, as it gives you something to do, and eases you into the shoot! My clients tend to include things like a laptop, notebook, phone, samples, mood boards or any other objects that show more about their industry or personal style.

Question

Do you edit the photos?

Answer

Yes, the photos are all edited in my signature style. I include basic spot removal, subtle skin smoothing, eye sharpening and brightening and teeth whitening. I also remove small distracting elements, like plug sockets, light switches and wires etc. Digital manipulation is available at an extra cost, if needed.

Question

Will I receive high and low resolution images?

Answer

Yes, you'll receive your images in low resolution (which work best for your social media and website) and high resolution (best for printing).

Question

Will I receive the unedited and/or RAW images?

Answer

I'm afraid not. It would be like paying to go to a Michelin star restaurant, for them to just throw the food on the plate, without any thought on presentation. A lot goes into the post-production of an image. I don't want you receiving a half-finished product, and I also don't want anyone thinking that's the kind of work I deliver!

Question

Do I have to credit/tag you?

Answer

You don't have to, but it means an awful lot to me when you do! I get all of my business this way, so if someone books me thanks to you, you'll get money off your next shoot with me.

Question

How do I book and pay?

Answer

Simply send an enquiry on the 'Contact' page. A 25% deposit and a signed contract secures your date and booking. The remaining balance is due on the day of the shoot.

Question

How can I find out more?

Answer

Head to the 'Conact' page and send me a message, so we can have a chat and get you booked in.
